Lazy days of summer?… (We don’t think so!)

Do people really get to swing away the days of summer in hammocks? We know that summer is the time for fun and vacations, but for growers and producers, it’s the peak time to grow, raise, harvest and sell.

Likewise for your friendly co-op administrative board, we’re busy at work planning a fall schedule to include a training retreat, financial pro forma and narrowing down a store location. As we get closer to this reality, it is important to have our membership goals met. Currently, we’re at 348 members. We really need to hit the 400 mark by Sept 1, 2014 to make a store site a reality!

To help us with this, we voted at our June meeting to hire a part-time outreach coordinator. This is a step many co-ops take at some stage of their development. We feel it is important to help us stay on track as the board becomes more engaged with the administrative tasks of site, capital campaign, etc.

For information on this position, view Part-time Outreach Coordinator and pass it along to anyone you think may be interested. We’ll keep you posted and hopefully introduce you to the newest member of the team soon!

Meanwhile, visit your local growers markets and produce stands. Eat fresh, local food and thank your farmers. A busy summer is a good summer for them.

Thanks,
Tammie Quick, chairperson
