Mid-Month Update – July 2014

Summer fun and food…

Recently, The Community Market was invited to speak at First Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina for their Women’s Retreat. The topic was health of body, mind and spirit. There was good conversation about how to strengthen the health of women, their families and the community. Many thanks for the hospitality and the opportunity to share the food co-op’s mission.

** If your group or organization would like to hear more about The Community Market food co-op and what it means for our community, please contact us.

So let’s say you’ve been visiting your local growers market and have a bounty of vegetables that you’re not quite sure how to prepare. Right now tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, corn, kale, basil, garlic, potatoes and of course, summer squash and zucchini are being harvested.

One principle of food cooperatives is education. The Stronger Together organization is a great resource for learning about all things related to food cooperatives. You will also find great recipes that are categorized by budget, season, dietary concerns, etc. Visit www.strongertogether.coop today.

We also want to thank all who applied for the Outreach Coordinator contract position that we announced in the last newsletter. Many of you passed it along to family and friends. We’ve had a great response and hope to have some exciting news in the near future about a new member of The Community Market team. Stay tuned!

As always feel free to forward this email to any and all you think might be interested in joining the food co-op. Opening a food co-op store is a true grassroots effort. We need members to make it happen, and it takes all of us reach out to our circles of friends, neighbors and co-workers to spread the network. That’s why we’re all “stronger together.”

Thanks,
Tammie Quick, chairperson
The Community Market, Inc.
