Debuting a Refreshed Identity

New logoFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 20, 2015 – The arrival of the spring season brings with it the excitement and anticipation of new growth and transformation. So to correlate with the first day of Spring, The Community Market Food Co-op announced today that, in preparation for its anticipated growth, it has launched a reinvigorated brand identity. The Co-op unveiled a new logo, adopted “Shop, Support, Sustain” as its tagline, and introduced the new motto “Opt for the Co-op.”

Started in 2012 as an idea among three friends who wanted to bring more local, organic and fair trade food choices to Southern Wake County residents, The Community Market has steadily grown to more than 365 Owners from Fuquay Varina, Holly Springs, Raleigh and surrounding areas. Throughout the winter, the Board of Directors spent time re-evaluating the co-op’s objectives, purpose and Ends Statement to determine if the direction is still in line with the community’s needs and desires. “As the co-op continues to grow, we (the Board) know that we need to constantly evaluate where we’re at and where we want to go; And that may mean that we need to make tweaks and changes to our current direction in order to keep up with community and industry changes, and continue our forward progression towards our goal of opening the store,” says Board Chair, Tammie Quick.

The release of the new logo design, tagline, and motto also coincides with The Community Market’s efforts to increase awareness and outreach during 2015. Stacey Sherman, Outreach Coordinator for the co-op states that “start-up cooperative businesses are in a unique position because many consumers are still not familiar with the co-op model so there is a level of understanding that must occur before they will feel knowledgeable enough to become an Owner.” And, that becomes part of the challenge…to easily and succinctly get the co-op message out in the community. That is why The Community Market Board is excited about the new motto and tagline. They feel that the motto, “Opt for the Co-op,” instills and reinforces the concept that joining the co-op is a conscious choice that community members make because they understand that when they invest in and shop at The Community Market, they are not just investing in their own health, but that they are also helping to support and sustain the community and local economy.

The Logo – The cart shape was chosen to represent the shopping/marketplace element of the co-op. The cart itself “supports” the co-op which, in turn, supports the consumer, local growers and producers, and the community. The leaves that form the cart and the wheel patterns represent the sustainability elements – environmental impact, recycle/reuse and re-growth – of the co-op. The colors – green, orange and brown – were chosen as, collectively, they represent growth, change and consciousness.
